December Challenge Day 26

I had to laugh at a twitter post from my dear sweet Sean earlier today. He was appalled by a dining room set he found at Goodwill for $800. You see, that's what I spent my day looking at, and the thinga ain't cheap. The one I found that I liked the most was $4000.00. I had a problem spending more on a dining room table than I did on my first car. We ended the day at Ikea, where we settled on a table and chairs and I spent the better part of 3 hours when we got home putting it all together. Do I like it as much as the 4k one at the Amish furniture store? Probably not. But it suits our current needs, and by the time the boys learn how to get more food in their mouths than on the table, I might be willing to go make the investment in something nicer.

Have a great weekend folks.

I suspect you missed the point of my affrontedness: It is not that A dining room set cost $800.00 (ours cost $2000 and took us three years to pay off) it is that ANYTHING costs $800.00 at GOODWILL. Do you really think anyone shopping at Goodwill has $800.00 to spend on tables and chairs? I have heard rumor that the powers that be at Goodwills and Sal's Army mark up prices on things so they won't sell and then keep them for themselves when the floor time for items is up. This may not be true, but I think it is offensive to mark something at that price in a store that is supposed to be affordable for a segment of society that can't afford clothes or toys or the basic furniture for a home. So please understand, it's not the price that bothers me, it's who's charging it. So much for affordable shopping for the down trodden.

Post a picture of your new table. And curse you (again) for having a local IKEA. Curse you straight to hell.

My mom got a beautiful oak table when my sister and I were maybe 11 and 7. We killed it. The first time I ever heard "I'M NEVER GOING TO HAVE ANYTHING NICE WITH YOU GIRLS IN THIS HOUSE." I agree with waiting until the boys are older. And I'm with Sean, $800 at a goodwill seems steep.

Isn't $800 a bit much for GOODWILL? I don't think I've seen anything over $20 at goodwill.

I wonder what Goodwill priced those sex toys I donated? Hope they got a nice few dollars each!! They were virtually unused.
